Are We Desperately Seeking a Savior ?

By Larry Amon

Many Americans, the main stream media and the world at large, have been swooning over President Obama. People were immediately taken with his words of hope and change. It is all likely empty rhetoric at best and a disaster at worst, but it doesn’t matter because not only does he speak the lies they wish to hear, he is charismatic and almost mesmerizing in his speech. For these reasons alone many people speculated that maybe Obama himself was the antichrist. Not all of the speculation was serious, some people were merely pointing out how the media had taken to him and that people expected Obama to save them. Other speculators were and still are more seriously considering the possibility that maybe in fact Obama is the Antichrist.

While the pieces don’t exactly add up for Obama to be the Beast in Revelation, he does seem to have the spirit of antichrist, because while he claims to know Christ he in fact appears to deny him just the same. In an interview with Cathleen Falsani in 2004 he was asked about his faith. When she asked “What do you Believe?” "What do you believe?" Obama effectively calls himself a Buddhist, agnostic, Muslim, Jewish, Christian and then goes on to say “ I'm rooted in the Christian tradition. I believe that there are many paths to the same place”. Jesus said He is the way not one of many ways. To deny this is to deny Christ. Obama goes on to refute basic truths from scripture in the rest of the article saying that sin is being out of alignment with his values, that he doesn’t believe non Christians will be judged, and that as far as going to Heaven goes, that he doesn’t know what life after death will hold. The full interview was on the Christian Anti Defamation league website but has recently disappeared. A copy still appears on the Christianity Today politics blog site.

Beyond Obama’s at best misunderstanding of Biblical Christianity, what we should focus on is how quick people are to look for a savior and to believe they have found one if the right words of comfort are spoken, whether they can be backed up or not. Obama talked about the power of words when he quoted important words from the past but downplayed the meaning of words when he made a mistake, but look how much power just words have when they come from someone with a great voice. Many are willing to be deceived just for the hope behind the words. The Bible tells us that faith is the assurance of things hoped for, a conviction of things unseen. However this kind of hope that Obama and the Antichrist who will come talk about is a false hope with no assurance.

So you might well imagine how the general public will react when a charismatic leader arises who can speak what they want to here with powerful words of hope and he isn’t just a partisan politician. The Bible also says that the Antichrist will be able to perform signs and wonders, how much more will this convince the world to follow after the beast?

It might seem like the world would be ready to accept a charismatic leader like this at any time but the current situation seems to make the present even more ripe for such a person to come to power. The world economic situation is grim and Obama’s stimulus plan as reported by the office of budget and management will make it worse. The stimulus package will put our country into massively more debt. Though the world likes to act like their economies are separate and don’t need America, they all seem to be following us down the road of economic turmoil.

The world was so thrilled with Obama becoming our president that they forgot he wouldn’t be their president and hoped he would save them anyway. Despite the EU superbloc, the possibility of a Mediterranean union and Russia consolidating power with a rapid reaction force with some of their former republics, no place on earth seems to have real peace and security. As we saw with the Patriot Act, even independent Americans were willing to give up some freedoms for security. How far away are we really that Americans and other countries will readily give up sovereignty for security. With the Israelis so desperately wanting peace and former Prime Miinister Olmert saying they are tired of fighting and being brave, they are willing to do almost anything for peace. Israel’s leaders have been willing to go to war with Hezbulla and Hamas for peace, but when the going gets tough they give up and fail to do what is really necessary. Even the Israeli citizens aren’t sure what to do, on the one hand they seemed to want to do what was really necessary for peace and looked willing to elect the tough Likud Party headed by Benjamin Netanyahu to a majority to run the country. Netanyahu would have taken tough stances in a Winston Churchill like way and would have eliminated Israel’s real enemies and not let Jerusalem be divided but when it came down to election time the voters of Israel didn’t quite come through. Though the right wing has a majority of seats in the Israeli knesset and Netanyahu has been given the go ahead to form a government, it will likely be a narrow one that might fall apart and force early elections again.

With our current world how hard is it to imagine a world that is divided into 10 or so regions, that include the EU, a Middle East Union, the North American union and so on. There was a group called the Club of Rome that predicted just such a thing many years ago and had an outline for 10 world unions. But even with the world coming together looking for answers, they will not come, it will only bring more escalation of fear. At such a time for one man with a Barack Obama type charisma but so much more, to step out and try to lead the United States of the world it could easily be imagined and happen. It may seem far fetched now, but where we are now was far fetched only a short time ago. Radical change can happen one step at a time disguised as something else. We may not be able to foresee all of the steps that lead to a one world government or one particular move that will bring the Antichrist to center stage, but we can see what’s happening now and we are clearly moving in that direction with steps being taken that are larger than any one person can see. With the right series of catalysts things could move even faster than they are now.
