Should we follow the news to understand Prophecy?

More than just reading news stories it’s helpful to put the stories together to understand what they signify, if anything. Reading commentaries can be helpful to put things in perspective but it’s important to find commentaries that go beyond just saying, look at all this news, the end must be coming soon.

Evaluating the news stories should give us a better understanding of just what season we are in. Many people want to know how close we are to the end times? No one can no for certain. But reading the signs of the times can give us a better estimate.

These news stories do seem to confirm that the world is quickly marching towards the end of days. Looking at these stories can be important to understanding the climate we are in and they may give some clues as to how close we are to the end. However, when you get engrossed in these things it can be easy to miss the big picture because you’re too close to see some of the shifts in direction the world has taken.

Jesus asked people almost 2000 years ago, 'how is it you can read the signs of the weather but miss the signs of the times?" The Bible gave us the signs to look for, and by all accounts it does seem we are in the end times. Now people have thought this for hundreds, even thousands of years, back to the time of the Bible. Looking back we may be able to see some things they were missing however.
