Will Israel lose the US as an ally?
By Larry Amon
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu or Bibi as he is called, is meeting the US President Barrack Obama on May 18 th, 2009 in Washington D.C. This is Netanyahu’s first meeting with Obama and his first meeting with an American president since recently returning to power this year. Netanyahu like other Israeli Prime Ministers of recent time is expected to stress that Iran is an existential threat and that the US needs to stop Iran
The Israeli President Shimon Perez who is largely a figurehead in Israeli politics has said that the whole world needs to deal with Iran, not just Israel. Perez is a former Prime Minister himself but also a liberal and a fan of Obama. Perez has stated that Israel will not attack Iran and that the world must address Iran. Perez won’t accept that Israel may have to go it alone. Perez would probably accept a nuclear Iran. Netanyahu told the press recently though that Obama needs to deal with Iran or he will.
Obama is expected to tie any help with Iran, to Israel and Netanyahu making concessions on the two state solution. Obama is naïve or foolish. He seems to be pushed in the direction of whatever agenda his handlers push him in. At the moment it seems Obama is being pushed in the direction to tie any help with Iran to the Palestinian peace process.
Netanyahu would be unwise to seriously consider this push by Obama because he has shown that like Perez he is unwilling to attack Iran, he thinks we could learn to live with a nuclear Iran and is unlikely to do anything meaningful to stop Iran from getting nuclear weapons.
Obama gives voice to supporting Israel but like many other things it’s only lip service. Obama has likely already decided that Israel is no longer a major ally, even though they are the only democracy in the Middle East. Obama sees a future that has America working with terrorists supporting countries such as Syria, Iran and Lebanon> he sees these as America’s new allies.
Leaving Israel is not new or only the caused by Obama however. George Bush, as great a supporter of Israel as he was, started moving away from supporting Israel towards the end of his presidency. He might have been war weary or might not have really believed Iran would become a nuclear threat. But Bush appears to have told Israel several times that they did not have his permission to attack Iran’s nuclear targets.
American presidents are not the only problem. Well known liberal and even some more conservative Christian leaders are moving away from supporting Israel. They see too many Christians supporting Israel because of what they believe is false allegiance. Conservative Christians had up until recently understood that Israel was and will always be special to God and would play a significant role in the end times. Many Christian leaders now believe in replacement theology where they see the Christian church as replacing Israel and that the church is spiritually Israel. To varying degrees John Piper, Hank Hanngraaff, Tony Campolo and Brian McLaren are among Christian leaders who hold these beliefs.
Obama is abandoning Israel as he tries to push Israel into accepting a peace agreement that will destroy Israel by removing or weakening Israel’s defensible borders, swelling Israel with the return of so called “refuges” that will outnumber Israel’s current Jewish population, and cost millions in reparations to “refugees”. All this while still allowing Iran to use Hamas, Hezbollah and the threat or use of nuclear weapons to her destruction. Can any Israeli leader accept this? Netanyahu does not have a broad coalition that will give him unwavering support and with the wrong move or turn in sentiment by his coalition his government could fail and he would be removed from power. This would leave Israel in real disarray politically after the prime ministership has changed hands so many times in recent years and been racked by scandal with Ehud Olmert’s legal problems.
How long will it be before America has a hand in Israel’s destruction? We know from prophecy that Israel will not be destroyed again. However it does appear that America is leaving Israel and this may answer a question many have had about how America plays into prophecy.
Many who read the prophecies of the Bible concerning the end time, interpret that during these times Israel will be attacked and no one will come to her aid. In the battle of Ezekiel 38 & 39 it is only God who rescues Israel. Many Americans who study the end times ask though, why doesn’t America help Israel in this prophecy. We have been Israel’s biggest ally and we are the world’s greatest superpower. Some have speculated that in the end times, America may have lost it’s clout or power or that America may be too week. However, there is a much simpler answer. It could be that America chooses not to help Israel because we abandon her as our ally. This seemed inconceivable in the past but looking at the unfolding of events as they stand now, it does not seem so far fetched. Obama alone has thrown his grandmother, his former pastor and political allies under the bus, why wouldn’t he do that to Israel?
